World Mental Health Day - Lets Make Everyday Count!

By Ian Hurst, Lead Trainer at We Are Hummingbird Health

What is World Mental Health Day?

On the 10th of October, we celebrate World Mental Health Day which is an incredible opportunity to raise awareness on a global scale about mental health. It's a day to break the silence, shine a light on the struggles millions of people face, and encourage open conversations. But while it's wonderful to have one dedicated day, mental health needs our attention all year long. There are 365 days in a year, and mental health should be a priority on every single one of them.

For too long, mental health has been pushed to the sidelines, particularly in the workplace. Stress, anxiety, and burnout are often seen as just part of the job. But the reality is, these challenges have a profound impact on both individuals and organisations. It's time we stop viewing mental health awareness as a one-day event and start integrating it into the fabric of our workplaces.

The Need for Systemic Change

Raising awareness is only the first step. To truly support mental well-being, we need systemic and organisational change, particularly in the workplace. Creating a culture that prioritises mental health isn't just about checking a box, it's about creating an environment where employees feel safe to speak up, ask for help, and support one another. When mental health is prioritised year-round, businesses see the benefits: increased productivity, higher employee retention, improved team morale, and reduced absenteeism.

At We Are Hummingbird Health, we understand that building this kind of culture takes more than awareness. It requires training, ongoing support, and a commitment to creating a workplace where mental health is as important as physical health.

Our Mental Health Training Courses

Our tailored mental health training courses are designed to equip organisations with the knowledge and tools they need to make a real difference. Whether it's Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), Suicide First Aid (SFA), or bespoke mental health awareness training, our courses will help you to build a culture of understanding and resilience.

Through our training, we help your team:

  • Recognise the signs of mental health challenges, such as stress, anxiety, or depression.

  • Respond effectively to individuals who may be struggling.

  • Build a supportive environment where employees feel comfortable discussing mental health without fear of stigma.

  • Promote well-being year-round, not just on World Mental Health Day.

By investing in mental health training, you're not only supporting your employees' well-being, but you're also building a more resilient, cohesive workplace. One where people are empowered to bring their best selves to work, every single day.

Let's Make Mental Health a Year-round Priority

World Mental Health Day is an important reminder that mental health affects us all, but true progress comes when we make it a priority every day of the year. If your organisation is ready to create lasting change and support mental health at every level, we'd love to help you get started. Together, we can build a workplace culture that values well-being and ensures mental health is always part of the conversation Check out our training courses or find out more here.
